Monday 25th August 2008
The hikers are ok, they'll fight another day,

they're exhausted but very much alive.

In the middle of the fire, things looked dire,

but somehow they managed to survive.

Later today, there's a few words they want to say,

in a news conference at half past three.

It won't last long, they'll explain what went wrong,

and how they were able to break free.

Noble Cheese prize – Presented by Charlie Cheshire

"The prize this year, you'll be glad to hear,

has been won by last year's winner.

Tomorrow night, she'll be under the spotlight,

at the Stilton Hotel, hosting dinner.

Working behind the scenes, helping us achieve our dreams,

she gives us all lots of inspiration.

She's a real treasure and it gives me much pleasure,

to present this on behalf of our nation."

Noble Cheese prize dinner – A speech

“Ladies, gentlemen, I can't believe I've won again,

thank you for all your support.

Thanks for your kind notes, as well as your votes,

and the gifts that you all bought.

It's a complete surprise, I have tears in my eyes,

and I really don't know what to say.

Words cannot express, my feelings of happiness,

this has really been my best day.

Record temperatures

It's hot, hot, hot, just in case you forgot,

and there's a serious risk of fire.

If you have a BBQ, be careful what you do,

and put it out before you retire.

Please, please, please, don't smoke near trees,

because all it takes is one spark.

Stay alert, be aware, and please take extra care,

when using candles in the dark.

On call

The forests are dry, fire services are on standby,

just in case there's a disaster.

If there's any trouble at all, helicopters are on call,

as they can get there much faster.

Barbeques are banned, and despite the demand,

fireworks are not allowed.

The grass is bone dry, and in the clear blue sky,

there's not one single cloud.

Wednesday 20th Aug 2008

Alert, alert

They're on the way, to save the day,

and check on a reported fire.

Racing to the scene, everyone so keen,

with bravery you have to admire.

With ladders and hoses, masks for noses,

and rope to help people down.

Rushing, dashing with blue lights flashing,

driving speedily through town.

Fire engines arrive

Fire engines have arrived, not much has survived,

but luckily nobody has been hurt.

We've just learnt, that many trees have been burnt,

and the ground has turned to dirt.

Just as people feared, the grass has disappeared,

and the forest is nearly all destroyed.

How it began is unknown, could it start on its own,

who knows, but people are annoyed.

Friday 22nd Aug 2008

It's out and safe

The fire's out, you can hear everyone shout,

and people can now return home.

If you don't mind, please, please be so kind,

and check on people living alone.

We're unsure, but some people are unaccounted for,

who were hiking along the stream.

They can't be found, they may be lost or drowned,

call us with anything you've seen.

Back in the Vale

I got back late on Sunday, no not from a holiday,

but from a working break in Cannes.

I rode in a gold Mercedes Benz, made new friends,

and met many interesting movie fans.

I had lots interviews, went to the front of queues,

and mingled with all the stars.

I met a beautiful Princess, with diamonds in her dress,

that cost more than any of my cars.

I had my picture taken between, the King and Queen,

and was called sir wherever I went.

I walked up carpets coloured red, hardly saw my bed,

the best 2 work weeks I've ever spent.

Back to work

I'm glad that I'm home, I don't like trips alone,

and I missed my children and wife.

It's like I've never been, it all seems a dream,

but it was the best work trip of my life.

Back to stories from the Vale and telling the tale,

of things going on around here.

Reporting the news, getting opinions and views,

boy, I really love this career.

A break in at the Cotswold café?

Bobby Blue has the following statement:

Earlier on today, the Cotswold café,

had one of its windows smashed in.

At about 4 a.m, one of my men,

heard a terrible racket and din.

He searched around, but all he found,

was some broken glass and blood.

The café was secure, and he's pretty sure,

he spotted four prints in the mud.

Thursday 14th Aug 2008

The break-in is solved

From the evidence seen, it would seem,

that the criminal was very small.

For this kind of break-in, little was taken,

not much was touched at all.

The lab report, says a crime of this sort,

is probably a smash-in and grab-it.

No damage to the door, food on the floor,

the criminal was probably a rabbit.

Weekend Fayre

At this weekend's Fayre, lots of things will be there,

like fortune tellers, food stalls and magicians.

Throw balls at tin cans, eat pies like your Grans,

and take part in the different competitions.

There's a rifle shoot and a 'toss the Wellie boot',

to see who can throw it the longest.

There's a lawnmower race, a slippery pig chase,

and a competition to find the strongest.

Monday 4th Aug 2008

Circus comes town

There's a circus in town, lions and the odd clown,

and acrobats swinging through the air.

Elephants big and small, men on stilts very tall,

and there’s even a giant koala bear.

There are dancing seals, cars with no wheels,

and a camel with three humps.

There are singings cats, large athletic rats,

and a spider that runs and jumps.

Tuesday 5th Aug 2008

A baby whale in the bay

Earlier today, a whale was seen in the bay,

blowing water into the sky.

It's a mystery, why it can't get back to sea,

and people are worried it'll die.

It seems very sad, it’s missing Mum and Dad,

and also feels very scared.

There a big tug on its way, arriving later today

as soon as it’s been repaired.

Wednesday 6th Aug 2008

Motorcycle madness

Over 200 bikes, choppers, sports, and trikes,

roaring along the sea front.

Ridden by girls and boys, an unbelievable noise,

coming from the exhaust grunt.

Nobody had ever, seen so much chrome and leather,

going on for mile after mile.

Open helmets, dark shades, the best of bike parades,

everyone had so much style.

Thursday 7th Aug 2008

A special meal

I hope to grab a crab, I want to eat shark meat.

and taste the fruit of the sea.

I want to try fish pie, I want to taste octopus paste,

but clams are best for me.

I love to crunch my lunch, like to drink fresh punch,

and adore the taste of eel.

Maybe later I’ll eat alligator, or chew something new,

I love every kind of meal!

My last day

Today's my last day, tomorrow I'll be away,

driving back to the Vale.

I've planned my route, packed my suit,

and sent postcards in the mail.

I’ll miss Cannes, the stars, my friends, the fans,

but I’m really looking forward to home.

It’s been a great working break, make no mistake,

but not when you’re here on your own.

Monday 28th July 2008

It's packed in Cannes

It's packed in Cannes, with lots of movie fans,

hoping for a glimpse of a star.

On the street or the beach, easily within reach,

but some hide away in the bar.

They are fed-up with fans, they have their own plans,

and just want to have a life.

They may be well know, but need time on their own,

and one got hurt by a knife.

Tuesday 29th July 2008

An event on the beach

Lots of time can be spent, at this beach event,

there's riding, sand yachting and canoeing.

Build castles tall and high, paraglide in the sky,

or sit and watch what others are doing.

Top up your tan, get autographs if you can,

surf, swim or try dune driving.

Collect giant starfish, eat your favourite dish,

go fishing, snorkelling or diving.

Wednesday 30th July 2008

A firework display

Later tonight there will be the most amazing sight,

lighting up the evening sky.

Massive rockets, your eyes will pop their sockets,

and some may even cry!

This sight you have to see, it has a place in history,

fireworks to light up the darkest cave.

It's a spectacular event, you'll be glad you went,

but dangerous, so children must behave.

Thursday 31st July 2008

Red carpet night

Polished sparkling cars, well dressed movie stars,

covered in diamonds and pearls.

Cameras click and flash, body guards run and dash,

as the stars pose with their twirls.

The fans cheering, as they see their idol appearing,

smiling and waving to the crowd.

The noise of the shouting, the posing, the pouting,

amazing and so incredibly loud.

Friday 1st August 2008

It's so quiet

It's so quiet in town, there’s nobody around,

and today the shops open at 1.

This sensible plan, happens all over Cannes,

and is a welcome break from the sun

It's been a busy few days, watching movies and plays,

and interviewing many famous stars.

I’ve eaten strange meals, travelled by 2 and 4 wheels,

and visited over 28 different bars!

Monday 21st July 2008

Air quality warning

Don't throw your old tyres, on garden fires,

the smoke stays for weeks in the air.

It's a nuisance and pest, gets into your chest,

and is very dangerous and also unfair.

It makes it difficult to breathe, and doctor's believe,

that this smoke can cause lung disease.

It harms animals and plants, so don't take a chance,

look how it's killing the trees.

A pedestrian only zone

If you're travelling by car, you can only drive so far,

into the city of Wensleydale Well.

There's a new pedestrian zone, it's safer walking alone,

and traffic is no longer such hell.

It's safer to walk, you can hear yourself talk,

and shopping there is relaxing and fun.

You can shop at your pace, no need to race,

or rush like a vampire avoiding the sun.

Wednesday 23rd July 2008
Shop name uncovered. It's called Salt-N-Sea

The new shop in Wensleydale, will have on sale,

everything to do with the oceans.

Materials to repair a boat, devices to keep afloat,

and lots of different suntan lotions.

Caps and badges to impress, flares if in distress,

first aid kits and medical supplies,

All kinds of wetsuits, gloves, and wellington boots,

available in every colour and size.

Thursday 24th July 2008

Opening success

The Salt-N-Sea, was very busy,

with hundreds of  people in the shop.

Packed like sardines, splitting at the seams,

would it ever stop.

They had to wait, until half past eight,

for all the shoppers to leave.

From morning till night, no break in site,

so tired you wouldn't believe.

Friday 25th July 2008

Charlie is going to France

Charlie jumped at the chance of going to France,

it was a place he'd always wanted to go.

His friends had been, told him what they’d seen,

and there was a lot more he wanted to know.

He'd drive, not fly, there was a good reason why,

he was afraid of flying by plane.

He flew last year, was totally overcome by fear,

and promised he'd never do it again.

So he packed his summer suit, planned his driving route,

and was ready to set off later that day.

He'd take it nice and slow, it was a country he didn't know,

and he’d stop over 1 night on the way.
